Seamlessly Manage Non-Registered USA Swimmers with TouchPad
When it comes to planning a great meet, one of the pillars is getting your swim events recognized by USA Swimming guidelines. There are a few key differences in meet types that generate "official" USA swimming times. The three types of recognized USA Swimming swims are Sanctioned Events, Approved Competitions and Observed Swim(s). These swims differ greatly and require specific rules and regulations to generate “official” times.
The three types of recognized USA Swimming swims are Sanctioned Events, Approved Competitions and Observed Swim(s).
TeamUnify has added a few new features to simplify this process in TouchPad meet management software. We have added the functionality to easily host, track and manage all three types of swims. Making it easier than ever to sync, import, track and export Registered and Non-Registered USA Swimming athletes and times.
All hosts, directors, saftey directors, marshals, coaches, officials, athletes and clubs must be registered with USA Swimming
The most general type of swim recognized by USA Swimming is a Sanctioned Event. This event must be conducted under USA Swimming technical and administrative rules. All hosts, directors, safety directors, marshals, coaches, officials, athletes and clubs must be registered with USA swimming. A Sanctioned Event is nothing new to Touchpad, simply select an Age Group meet. Once all athletes have been synced and imported, you will then use TouchPad to generate a Times Recon Reportfile to send to your LSC or SWIMS, checking that all athletes are registered USA Swimming members. This gives you the ease of mind knowing that you are within USA Swimming guidelines when running your Sanctioned Event in TouchPad.
Conducted under USA Swimming technical rules and time resolutions
The second type of recognized swim in an Approved Competition. This swimming competition requires the meet to be conducted under USA Swimming technical rules and time resolutions. However, with Approved Competitions there are no requirements for athletes to be members of USA Swimming. All times that are achieved will be recognized by USA Swimming. Only times recorded by Registered USA Swimmers will be eligible to be added to the SWIMS database. This means you may want to allow Non-Registered USA Swimming athletes to swim, such as YMCA or High School/College athletes, but not record official SWIMS times. An Approved Competition can easily be run with new updates to TouchPad, allowing the hosts to create a meet as either a High School/College meet (to allow athletes without a birthday or USA swimming ID) or as a YMCA meet (to allow athletes without USA swimming IDs). With these features in TouchPad, it is easy to import, flag, and export results based on swimmer status of Registered or Not USA Registered, making it easier than ever to track and report correct athlete times to SWIMS.
Conducted outside USA Swimming technical rules such as High School, NCAA, YMCA or IPC
The last type of recognized swim is an Observed Swim. This type of meet is conducted outside USA Swimming technical rules, such as a High School, NCAA, YMCA or IPC meet. There are no membership requirements with USA Swimming for athlete participation. In order for this type of meet to be observed by USA Swimming, there must be a request made to the LSC within its parameters for observation. Only times from approved and observed swims with appointed and certified USA Swimming officials will be recognized. Also, only times achieved by USA Swimming registered members will be eligible for the SWIMS database. These types of meets can easily be run with new updates to TouchPad, allowing the hosts to create a meet as either a High School/College meet (to allow athletes without a birthday or USA swimming ID) or as a YMCA meet (to allow athletes without USA swimming IDs). With TouchPad, it is simple to record specific times and swims and easily export only official times for SWIMS.
Here at TeamUnify we work hard to create a holistic software suite that allows you to administrate less and coach more. As usual, our tight integration with SwimOffice allows teams to designate any swimmer as Not Registered with USA Swimming. This designation automatically transfers to TouchPad when syncing meet entries. Once the meet is complete, only official results of USA Swimming athletes will sync to SwimOffice. Exported results can be customized to your liking, with options to include only USA, only Non-USA or both, giving swim meet administrators the power to send official swim results with ease.
